The Unpardonable Sin

During your time in the faith, you might have come across the Bible passage Matthew 12:31-32 where it talks about a sin that is "unpardonable". God's character is consistent and we know Him to be a God of grace, able and willing to forgive all sins. So why is this sin different? What is it about this sin that makes it impossible for God to forgive, and isn't God contradicting Himself with this verse?
